He has put a new song in my mouth, Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD (Psalm 40:3). The Copts inherited a very ancient musical tradition. The purpose of Coptic music is to provide a heavenly atmosphere and a spiritual means by which the chanters and laity feel closest to God. The tune varies from occasion to occasion, capturing and evoking the appropriate feelings and emotions.
