Christ Crucified

The Crucifixion icon stresses God's willingness to ascend to the Cross. Christ's face is turned towards His Mother, who is standing amongst other women at the foot of the cross with St. John the Beloved. According to tradition, the skull underneath the Cross is that of Adam.
